What is vegetable-tanned leather?

What is vegetable-tanned leather?

At A.DAN, we use only vegetable-tanned leather and one of the most common question we get from the consumers is:

What is vegetable-tanned leather?

Vegetable-tanning is a traditional artisanal process that uses natural tannins (extracts) from different plants. Currently, few tanneries practice it as it is a complex and tedious process that requires the skill and knowledge of experienced craftsmen and can take up to 2 or 3 months.

Sustainability is key and we work with reputable sources for our leathers. Water produced from the process is treated in heavily invested systems before being recycled or offered as sewage for farms. This environmental-friendly process is made possible as no chemicals are involved in the tanning process.

The result of the above is a leather that absorbs the traces of life, that ages gracefully and has great durability and strength to last a lifetime. Ultimately, a A.DAN product will be unique to every user at the end of the day, developing it's own character and patina with time and wear.

All our vegetable-tanned leather products comes with it's own authenticity tags to assure the consumer of it's source and quality.
